Introduction
The FdSc Sports Coaching, Education and Development programme is a highly
vocational course that embeds the principles of work based learning within all
of the modules studied. Alongside the vocational elements of the programme the
learners also study a range of underpinning theories that facilitate their
development.

The learners will also be provided with the opportunity to achieve numerous
externally recognised qualifications, such as:
National Governing Body coaching qualifications
Level 1 Award in Coaching Football
EHA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Handball
Level 2 Award in Multi-Skills Development in Sport
Externally Recognised Qualifications
City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training
Hockey Quicksticks leaders course
Bouldering wall (Lincoln College) workshop

Entry Requirements
A
minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff points from the following:
BTEC National
(Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject
GCE A and AS Levels with
at least one subject at A Level
Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least
one subject at Advanced Higher
T Levels.
For mature applicants some experience may
be taken in lieu of qualifications that carry UCAS Tariff
points.
Plus
GCSE English Language- Grade 4/C or above
GCSE Maths -
Grade 4/C or above
(Level 2 Functional Skills is not taken as an
equivalent)
EU and International applicants
NARIC confirmed
equivalent of 64 UCAS Tariff points
IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a
minimum of 5.5 in each component
Equivalent English language
qualifications may be acceptable for applicants requiring a
visa

Assessment and Progression
There
are typically 2-3 assessment tasks per module delivered. The assessment methods
used throughout the programme include:
Practical assessments Written
examinations Coursework portfolios Written assessments
The
programme specification details the assessment strategy for each module,
including the relevant task
weightings.
Progression The course is designed to
prepare and aid learners for a career in the sports coaching, teaching and
sports development industries. Many previous learners have attained employment
within these fields on completion of their Foundation Degree, whilst others have
chosen to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching, Development and Pedagogy
(Top Up) at Lincoln College.

Additional Course
Costs
Sports kit - £130 (compulsory) ; DBS check - £47.80
(compulsory); Additional coaching courses (optional)- varying
costs
Additional compulsory course costs will be paid for using the
Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows students to access the remainder of the
bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 / £250) for additional optional courses,
workshops, professional memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative.
Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary
may do so at full cost to themselves.

Study Details
You will study on the Lincoln College Campus for the full duration of the
course. Full Time - 2 Years; Course contact hours are to be confirmed. Whilst
the sessions delivered at College will typically fall between Monday and Friday
from 9am – 5pm, it is expected that students will complete the online study, in
addition to the independent study, outside of these times. Students should also
make themselves available to complete work experience hours outside of these
times. Many of the opportunities offered through the college will require
commitment during evenings and weekends.

This course is validated by the Bishop Grosseteste University. The validating institution is responsible for awarding the qualification at the end of the programme. Students on validated courses are OfS registered, funded and taught at Lincoln College and it is the responsibility of the College to manage all aspects of this provision. The validating institution maintains an oversight of the programme throughout the academic year and must be satisfied that students are being taught in line with the required academic standards of the awarding institution.
