More information about this Course
Introduction
This course is suitable for people who have not met the entry requirements
for IASTI Level 3, but wish to progress onto this qualification to train for a
career as an aviation engineer, in ground crew or as a pilot.
You will study your course in the brand-new Phase 1 IASTI facility at Newark
College, which has been equipped by industry with state-of-the-art learning
assets. By the time you graduate to level 2 the new IASTI Newark HQ will be
built in the town and you will continue your studies here.
This qualification has been developed to provide learners with an
intermediate knowledge and understanding of the practices and processes of
engineering technology. It covers knowledge, understanding and skills that are
relevant to a wide variety of careers and study routes and takes a hands-on
approach to basic engineering training.
The course will give an excellent introduction to the technical skills
required in any of the IASTI pathways.
This route will provide the basis for you to progress onto an IASTI L3
programme upon successful completion of this qualification and obtaining the
correct GCSE grades.

Entry Requirements
You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs. These 4 GCSEs must include English
Language or Mathematics at Grade 4 or above (an approved Science-based subject

Assessment and Progression
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
To progress to a L3 IASTI Newark programme, you must complete the L2
qualification at Merit level and have GCSE English Language and Maths at
Grade 4 or above.
If you do not achieve the required grades to advance to a L3 IASTI course,
then careers information and guidance can be provided to help to find you an
alternative course at college.
Successful completion of the L2 Diploma in Engineering Technologies
qualification provides the knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant
to a wide variety of careers and study routes and take a hands-on approach to
basic engineering training. This would support your progression into the world
of employment and wider industry should you choose this
