Support For Students Aged 19+
Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3
We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. More information about this Course
Introduction
Do you have an artistic side? Do you want to do something more practical with
your painting skills? Do you want to be a qualified Painter and Decorator and
offer a great quality service? If so, this course is for you.
This course covers practical and theoretical elements of Painting and
Decorating, giving you the skills and knowledge to progress in the industry. It
also offers support as you prepare to work in the construction industry.
Our expectations of you are high and attention to detail is really
important.
During the course, you’ll study:
- Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
- Principles of Building Construction
- Information and communication
- Preparing surfaces for decoration
- Applying Standard Papers to Walls and Ceilings
- Producing Specialist Finishes for Decorative Work
- Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Work Platforms
- Creating and Applying Colour

Entry Requirements
You’ll need to have completed a Level One Painting & Decorating programme
or have good knowledge of both theoretical and practical skills and will ideally
have experience using both hand and power tools.
You’ll also need to have GCSEs in Maths and English (minimum Grade E or
equivalent). You will asked to pass a trade test as well as a literacy and
numeracy test. You’ll also need to attend an interview and provide a reference
(from an employer or recent school/college report).

Assessment and Progression
Assessment: Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written
examinations.
Progression: Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma could lead to
potential careers including working within the construction industry and working
as a painter.

Fees listed are for those aged 19 years and over only. Fees are subject to
change. Support for fees may be available, such as fee remission or the Advanced
Learner Loan.

You’ll require workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from our
preferred supplier, a copy of the course textbook: 'Painting and Decorating'
ISBN-: 978-1- 4443-3501-9 and 'The City & Guilds Textbook Level 2 Diploma in
Painting and Decorating' ISBN-: 978-0-85193-296-5. You’ll also need general
stationery equipment and access to the internet PCs are available on
campus.
