More information about this Course

Introduction

Do you want to tell a story through images? Are you able to share your thoughts and emotions visually or do you want to be able to? Photography allows us to show other people how we see the world and this course is the perfect starting point.

If you enjoy taking photographs, then this course will stretch and challenge your skills by providing you with the opportunity to work on projects that will encourage your creativity, experimentation, investigation and analysis skills.

You will be encouraged to take risks with your work to discover ideas and realize your creative potential. The course will also enhance your self-confidence and reveal potential career demands and opportunities.

You’ll be based at Lincoln College of Art and Design at Christ's Hospital Terrace (in the Cathedral Quarter) which has excellent facilities including a print room, 3D workshops (ceramics, glass, plaster, wood and metals), a dark room, five MAC suites, fashion workshop, photography and media studios and light and airy art.

During this course, you’ll be:

  • Learning a broad range of photographic and camera skills both traditional and digital
  • Using our darkroom and our computer rooms.
  • Working within industry standard spaces with equipment to support you from your initial image capture all the way to the final exhibition.

Entry Requirements

You’ll need three GCSEs including an Art or Design related subject (minimum Grade Three) not including Expressive Arts, or a Level One qualification in an Art related subject. You will also need to attend an interview, where you will be required to show your art and design ability in a portfolio of artwork/photography.

You’ll need to provide a reference (from an employer or a recent school/college report). We are interested in your potential and your motivation to study here. We also ask you to email a short, written statement that tells us about your interests in our course.

Assessment and Progression

Assessment: There is no exam. The Level Two Diploma in Art & Design Photography is made up of seven core units and one self-negotiated project, The Final Major Project. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project.

The final project will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. This will be your overall grade for the qualification. The Level Two Diploma qualification is equivalent to four GCSEs at grade four.

Progression: The course will provide you with an introduction to image making which will enable you to develop a portfolio of work that will support progression onto a course at Level Three, normally Photography, Creative Media or Art.

Fees
Fees listed are for those aged 19 years and over only. Fees are subject to change. Support for fees may be available, such as fee remission or the Advanced Learner Loan.
