Will I have to pay fees?

Support For Students Aged 19+

Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3

We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. More information about this Course


Introduction

Do you love styling hair and finding new ways to wear it? Do friends and family always comment on how good you are with it? Are you confident and enjoy talking to all kinds of people? If so, this course is perfect for you.

This course will provide you with a clear understanding of the Hairdressing Industry. You will develop the skills needed to assist a stylist in Hairdressing within our fully equipped salons. In addition to this, you will be given the chance to attend training with manufacturers, showcase your skills in local and national competitions and work on a number of paying clients.

During the course, you’ll learn:

  • Preparation for hair services and maintaining work areas
  • Contribution to the development of effective working relationships
  • How to blow dry hair
  • How to shampoo and condition hair
  • Assisting with hair colouring and lightening services
  • How to plait and twist hair using basic techniques


  • Entry Requirements

    You’ll need two GCSEs including English Language (minimum Grade D/three) and a keen interest in the Hair Industry. You will be asked to attend an interview/experience day and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).



    Assessment and Progression

    Assessment: Assessment is a combination of practical observation, oral questioning, online knowledge-based exams and portfolio work.

    Progression: Completing this course may allow you to progress onto the NVQ Level Two Diploma in Hairdressing, Hair and Media Make-up or an Apprenticeship programme. This is dependent on meeting entry criteria for the programmes including; a clear disciplinary record, good attendance of 85% and above, positive tutor reference and achievement of GCSE Maths and/or English.

    What You Will Need To Bring

    You’ll need workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and kit from our preferred supplier - which will include your course textbook. You’ll also need general stationery equipment and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
