Will I have to pay fees?

Support For Students Aged 19+

Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3

We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. Introduction

Do you want to be able to live more independently? Do you need extra help with your English and Maths? Would you like to learn some great skills for life? If the answer is yes, this course could be for you.

This is an Entry Level full-time course which aims to help you to develop a range of skills to promote and support greater independence in day-to-day living. It will also help you with self-confidence, building on your skills and strengths.

All courses include English and Maths, you will follow accredited Functional Skills qualifications, as well as Continuing Personal/Professional Development, tutorials, enrichment and enterprise projects and a work experience placement.

If you want to travel alone, we can help you get in touch with Lincolnshire County Council Travel Training Department. English and Maths through Functional Skills will be included throughout all aspects of the course. You will have the opportunity to take part in some form of work experience and gain a knowledge of employability skills that may be needed.

On this course, you’ll learn:

  • Using appliances
  • Kitchen hygiene and safety
  • Household skills
  • Budgeting
  • Road safety
  • Shopping
  • Use of public transport
  • Working on money skills
  • To develop more confidence


  • Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You will need to attend a Welcome Day, Taster and Interview. A BKSB assessment will be carried out to determine Maths and English levels. In addition, a Support Needs Assessment will also be carried out, to identify any additional needs. Applicants with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), will need a consultation.



    Assessment and Progression

    Assessment: Assessment is a combination of observation of practical and personal skills and a written portfolio of evidence.

    Progression: This course offers you support with your independence and to build on skills and strengths. This will help you to progress onto a vocational skills programme in your choice of career or go onto supported employment.

    Fees listed are for those aged 19 years and over only. Fees are subject to change. Support for fees may be available, such as fee remission or the Advanced Learner Loan.
