Will I have to pay fees?

Support For Students Aged 19+

Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3

We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. Introduction

Do you enjoy working with different types of wood, creating designs and producing wooden products? Are you looking to get a job where you work with your hands? This course could be for you.

Our City & Guilds Furniture Making programme at Newark will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress within the furniture making industry. The course is aimed at those with a passion for working with different timbers and in wanting to achieve excellent craft skills in both design and manufacture. Setting the bar high you will be surprised by what you can ultimately achieve.

The furniture department has now received over ten City & Guilds medals of excellence awarded due to the exceptional work of our learners. A superb accolade for the learners, in helping their career post college.

You will be inducted on a wide range of machinery and will be expected to machine your own components as required. There is a well-ordered furniture making workshop with self-contained classrooms as well as a dedicated machine shop. The College has also undertaken work for the National Trust which is a unique opportunity to learn different skills and produce something for future generations to see.

  • Entry Requirements

    You will need to have successfully completed a Level One Carpentry Joinery programme or have appropriate knowledge of both theoretical and practical skills and will ideally have experience using both hand and power tools.

    You’ll also be required to have GCSEs in Mathematics and English (minimum Grade Three or equivalent). You may be asked to provide a reference.



    Assessment and Progression

    Assessment: Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.

    Progression: Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto our Level Three Diploma in Furniture Production or Level Two Diploma in Wood Machining or onto a career within the industry.

    What You Will Need To Bring
