Have you ever wanted to write, create and publish your own short film, game,
animation or podcast? Maybe you want to work in media production for film or TV.
This course is the perfect way to learn how.
This course will teach you how to work with video cameras, professional audio
recorders and microphones while editing video, audio or images on our high-end
4k computers.
This two year Extended Diploma course is largely practical and gives you not
only a broad range of skills and experiences but also provides a professional
environment where your portfolio of work and skills can be expanded to industry
standards.
There are opportunities to gather skills in Film, Television &
Production; Graphic Design; Games Design, Video & Audio Production and Media
Marketing.
The structure of the course is that you have the opportunity to experience
all areas of media initially with briefs given to you that cover some specific
tasks such as writing, and presenting in readiness to be published in our
magazine, a film review in Year One and a media-related extended article in Year
Two.
Through the remainder of the first year, you are then able to devise your own
production briefs across two productions to explore and experiment with
different aspects of media, mentioned above, to find the area of interest you
want to follow. This can then be presented in the Final Major Project, which
again, is a self-devised project that should showcase the skills developed so
far.
For Year Two, you then have the opportunity to follow the pathway/direction
that has triggered your interest. So with Game Design in mind, for your first
production, you could create your own gaming company, design your logo and
establish your brand. This could be followed up for your second production by
creating a game design concept, thinking about a game theme/genre (action,
adventure, sport, fantasy, etc.), creating characters and the
world/environments, games programming and scripting, storylines of how the game
starts through to completion, what the players journey through the game might
look like. You could record multiple character dialogue, experiment with sound
that would be included in your game (battle sounds, atmospheres, etc.).
The final project of the year could then be bringing your game alive using
software such as Unreal Engine and creating playable levels of your game.
To become good at what you do, practice is essential so continuing project
work outside of your timetabled hours is vital. You should plan to spend at
least six hours, and up to 12 hours, per week of your own time on these projects
to achieve the best possible outcome. You will work in multiple project groups
with other students in a team and your weekly timetable will be approximately 15
hours. There will be workshops, lectures, demonstrations as well as group
ensemble projects.
The course runs as a Media Production Company, NCM with five main elements as
