Support For Students Aged 19+

Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3

We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. Introduction

This 2-year Extended Diploma course is largely practical and gives you not only a broad range of skills and experiences but also provides a professional environment where your portfolio of work and skills can be expanded to industry standards.

The course runs as a Media Production Company, NCM with four main elements as well as additional client based projects. The four main elements are: a television station, that is broadcast from the NCM PM-TV Studio; A campus magazine produced termly based in NCM Production Offices; A Radio and Podcast Studio, that is recorded from NCMs PM-Pod Studio; A Film Production Company, NCM-Films, also based in NCM Production Offices.

 

There are opportunities to gather skills in Film, Television & Production; Graphic Design;
Video & Audio Production; Media Marketing; Journalism.

To become good at what you do, practice is essential so continuing project work outside of your timetabled hours is vital. You should plan to spend at least 6 hours, and up to 12 hours, per week of your own time on these projects to achieve the best possible outcome. You will work in multiple project groups with other students in a team and your weekly timetable will be approximately 14 hours. There will be workshops, lectures, demonstrations, to show you how to do things, as well as project group working.

This qualification has been designed to improve the skills needed for any career path and will enable you to demonstrate adaptability, independence, professionalism, team work, reliability, imagination and creative flair. As well as practical work, there will be an opportunity to do GCSE retakes if you need to.



Entry Requirements
You will need 4 GCSE's including English Language and maths at a minimum grade 4 or a Level 2 Diploma in Media or directly-related subject. Applicant auditions and interviews Practical Skills Applicants are asked to submit a digital portfolio by email to include: 1) At least three photographic images taken by yourself with annotations which describe the techniques you used and explain the intentions behind your creative decisions. 2) At least three examples of any print-based media that have caught your attention. these could be magazine covers, professional photographs or page design. 3) An example of a piece of written work from a suitable creative subject, such as English, Media or Graphics. This could be an essay that outlines your interests or a review of a film. 4) Web links to, any other creative and directly related work you wish to show us, such as moving image work on Youtube or an example of a piece of your own work that has involved design in some form. This could be a design plan, website or drawings. Assessment and Progression

The qualification is worth 3 A levels and is full time. If you achieve high standards your final major project could be graded at level 4. Students do not have to sit external exams. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project.

Most students go on to study an undergraduate degree in Media Production or Lens Based Media and/or pursue employment in a range of areas including film, video and television production, animation, graphic design, photography and marketing.



Fees
A studio fee is payable at the start of the course of £100. This contributes towards some of the materials and equipment you will use, including towards shared group hard-drives and a USB memory stick for paperwork back-ups. This studio fee also goes towards subsidising up to 3 trips, with extra contribution.

What You Will Need To Bring
You will need to purchase headphones for critical sound monitoring and also require general stationery equipment, including a memory stick/pen drive (minimum capacity 8GB)and access to the internet; MACs and PCs are available on-campus. Other materials may be required in order to do the course. These will be supplied by the college and you will be required to pay a fee to use these within the studio.
