More information about this Course

Introduction

Have you got a natural musical talent? Do you love to dance or perform on stage? Would you like a career in performing arts? This course is an excellent place to start.

The UAL Level Four Professional Diploma in Performance has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to focus on personal, and professional development to gain access to specialist higher-level training or employment in the creative industries.

This qualification will provide you with an opportunity to develop practical, professional standards of performance and areas of expertise. It allows you to reflect on audition skills and explore ways to develop these. You will be based in our own dedicated performance space which has a 180-seater theatre, dressing rooms, dance studios, rehearsal rooms, recording studio, MAC suite and technical theatre workshop.

The course ends with a Specialist Performance Project where you will instigate, rehearse and perform your work. The course is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive link to either higher-level training or employment.

During this course, themes include:

  • Rehearsal etiquette
  • Personalised CPD
  • Study of performance work through history to inform the production of new material.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that you have a minimum of GCSE grade Four or grade C (or an equivalent Level Two qualification) in both English and maths, and one A level (or equivalent Level Three qualification), preferably in a relevant creative subject, ideally Level Three Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, Dance or Music at Merit or equivalent qualifications.

You’ll also need to attend an interview, where you have an audition. You are required to prepare two monologues, either classical or contemporary, around two minutes in length.

Assessment and Progression

Assessment: There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit, or distinction. The qualification is equivalent to achieving Year One of a degree course.

Progression: You could progress into higher education or employment in the industry.
