Will I have to pay fees?

Support For Students Aged 19+

Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3

We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. Introduction

Do you have determination, resilience, and the ability to stay calm in stressful or dangerous situations? A career in the Police force could be for you.

If you want to pursue a career in Policing, then this Policing College Study Programme is the perfect place to start. Designed alongside Lincolnshire Police, it provides the opportunity for graduates to progress into roles such as Emergency Call Handlers, IT Support Workers, Business Administrators, Custody and Detention Officers, and eventually become Police Constables.

You will achieve a three A-Level equivalent qualification in Protective Services tailored to Policing. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills, knowledge, and behaviours to start a successful career in Policing, through a guaranteed interview opportunity.

During this course, you will get unprecedented access to policing environments, expert speakers, and real-life training exercises.

During this course, you’ll learn

  • Through your two years you will complete 13 units. Within the 13 units, two units are external assessed through an examination, with the remaining 11 units being assessed via a range of theoretical or practical assessments. Types of assessment are written reports, presentations and practical scenarios.
  • Through the two years you will be covering topics around behaviour and discipline, teamwork, leadership and communication, policing powers, criminal investigations, planning and responding to emergency incidents and introduction to criminology and more.
  • Alongside your course, you will have enrichment activities with Lincolnshire Police built into your timetable, the opportunity to take part and develop your fitness levels.
  • If turning 18, the opportunity to apply to become a special constable with Lincolnshire Police subject to passing the application process

Assessment and Progression

Through your assessments you are required to achieve a pass the exam in Year One and completion of all other module-based assessments to progress onto the second year. Other types of assessment are a combination of coursework, presentations, practical tests/observations, which are graded either Pass, Merit or Distinction.



Entry Requirements

You’ll need four GCSEs at Level Four and above, to include English Language and Maths; or successful progression from the Level Two Policing programme with English Language or Mathematics at Level Four or above.

You will be encouraged to attend a taster day and may be required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report). Additionally, you need to demonstrate an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity, as well as a specific and sustained interest and motivation for a career in policing.



Assessment and Progression

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of internally set coursework and practical assessments, along with externally set assessments.

Progression

This vocational Study Programme will prepare you for progression straight into employment, on to apprenticeships with Lincolnshire Police, or directly on to a BA (Hons) Professional Policing programme.

Equipment Required

You’ll need an indoor practical kit with an option to purchase from our preferred supplier. There will be a mandatory uniform requirement for certain aspects of this course, but this will be identified with options to purchase directly from our preferred supplier.

You’ll also need general stationery equipment and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
