Will I have to pay fees?

Support For Students Aged 19+

Lincoln College Fee Remission Policy offers means tested and non-means tested help with course fees for qualifications up to and including Level 2 and for some students aged 19+ studying a first Full Level 3

We also offer the Advanced Learner Loan, which is non-means tested help with course fees for Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 Further Education funded courses. Our Learner Support Fund offers means tested help with course related costs such as travel to college, uniform, equipment, UCAS application fee and travel to Higher Education interviews. We offer help with the cost of Ofsted registered childcare through the Care To Learn scheme for students aged under 20 (non means tested) and our 20+ Childcare Support Fund (means tested). We can also provide assistance through the Free College Meals scheme. Students, or their parents, must be in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit and either aged 19 to 24 and have a current Education and Health Care Plan, or be aged 19 and continuing exactly the same programme that they started before they turned 19. Introduction

If you want to pursue a career in Policing, then this is the perfect place to start. This Policing College Study Programme has been designed alongside Lincolnshire Police to provide the opportunity for graduates to progress into roles such as Emergency Call Handlers, IT Support Workers, Business Administrators, Custody and Detention Officers, and then potentially become the Police Constables of the future.

You will achieve a Diploma in Preparation for the Public Services, preparing you for progression straight into employment, on to apprenticeships with Lincolnshire Police, or on to further study.

This course will provide you with the underpinning skills, knowledge, and behaviours to start a successful career in policing. Successful completion of this course could allow you to progress to the Level Three Policing College Study Programme or straight into a career in the Police, through a guaranteed interview opportunity.

During this Course you will get unprecedented access to policing environments, expert speakers, and real-life training exercises.

During this course, you’ll learn:

  • This is a one-year course which is studied alongside English and Maths as part of your study programme.
  • Through the academic year, you will take part in a range of activities which are theory and practical based.
  • You will be covering topics about Public Service skills, Employment in Protective Services, aspects of the law and how crime affects society.
  • There will also be enrichment and leadership/teamwork opportunities built into the course.


Entry Requirements

You will need four GCSEs at Level Three and above or equivalent, to include one from English Language and Maths. You will be encouraged to attend a taster day and may be required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).

You’ll also need to demonstrate an ability to cope with a program of physical activity as well as a need to demonstrate a specific and sustained interest and motivation for a career in policing.



Assessment and Progression

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of internally set coursework and practical assessments, and externally set assessments.

Progression

You could progress to the Level Three course or straight into employment, on to apprenticeships with Lincolnshire Police, or directly on to a BA (Hons) Professional Policing program.

What You Will Need To Bring

You’ll need an indoor practical kit with an option to purchase from our preferred supplier. There will be a mandatory uniform requirement for certain aspects of this course, but this will be identified with options to purchase directly from our preferred supplier.

You’ll also need general stationery equipment and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
