More information about this Course

Introduction

Do you want to work in music, but being on stage isn’t for you? Do you thrive under pressure and love organising projects or events? This course could be for you.

This one-year Level Four Professional Diploma course centres around developing professional practice to industry standards. You will have an individual development plan and will explore methods and techniques relating to a wide variety of production work, including sound design, lighting design, set design, or stage management.

Masterclasses focus on topics such as production design, technical elements, business development, and self-promotion. As a group, you will form your own company and plan productions and collaborations in a variety of locations and venues. You’ll take control of all aspects of the production and will lead or mentor others. You’ll also develop a network of contacts in the industry and establish yourself in the local community.

You’ll be based in our own dedicated performance space which has a 180-seater theatre, dressing rooms, dance studios, rehearsal rooms, MAC suite, and technical theatre workshop. You’ll also work at venues and locations around the city of Lincoln.

During this course, students will learn:

  • Stage Management
  • Technical Theatre
  • Theatre Production
  • Lighting Design
  • Set Building
  • Event Management

Entry Requirements

You’ll need Grade Four or above in Maths and English and one A level (preferably in a creative subject) or Equivalent Level Three Extended Diploma in a Performing Arts qualification. You will be asked to attend an interview and bring evidence of your creative ability. You’ll also need to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report). International students should have a minimum IELTS score of 5.0.

Assessment and Progression

Assessment: There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit or distinction.

Progression: You will develop skills that will help you seek employment or further study at specialist universities. The qualification is equivalent to achieving the first year of a degree course and may provide entry to year two of a degree course in a related subject.
