More information about this Course

Introduction

Do you have a natural artistic flair? Do you love working with different materials to create amazing designs? Maybe you’re thinking of a career in the creative arts. This course is the perfect place to start.

On this two-year, Level Three Extended Diploma course, most of your working week will be spent in an art studio or Mac suite. You’ll develop your design skills by doing practical work and will have the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of media and ways of working.

There will be demos and lectures which teach you how to study the design work of others. You’ll also learn how to plan a project and organise your time so that you’ll be able to work independently and meet deadlines.

We’ll also have gallery visits and trips. You will meet professional artists and designers and undertake work experience in the Creative Industries as part of your course with the opportunity to develop an online presence to promote your work globally.

This qualification allows you to build a portfolio of work that prepares you well for progression onto Art Foundation Diploma or an HE course. Certification is awarded by the prestigious UAL Awarding Body, widely regarded as the best university for the Creative Arts in Europe.

Based at Lincoln College of Art and Design at Christ's Hospital Terrace (in the Cathedral Quarter) which has excellent facilities including a print room, 3D workshops (ceramics, glass, plaster, wood and metals), a dark room, five MAC suites, fashion workshop, photography and media studios and light and airy art.

During this course, you’ll develop practical skills to:

  • Communicate ideas
  • Create composition and layout
  • Apply colour theory
  • Select and use typefaces
  • Manipulate images
  • Create designs for print

Entry Requirements

You’ll need four GCSEs preferably including Maths, English and an Art of Design subject (minimum grade Four), or a merit grade in a Level Two Diploma in Art and Design. Expressive Arts are not considered.

You will be asked to attend an interview, where you will need to show your art and design ability in a portfolio of artwork. You are also required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).

Assessment and Progression

Assessment: There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit, or distinction. The qualification is equivalent to achieving three A levels.

Progression: This qualification has been designed to improve the skills needed for any career path and will enable you to demonstrate adaptability, independence, professionalism, teamwork, reliability, imagination, and creative flair.
